BAU联合北京清华同衡方案设计研究院有限公司（以下简称“清华同衡”）、清华大学建筑设计研究院有限公司（以下简称“清华建筑院”），在海盐古城复兴城市设计及重点片区建筑观点设计方案国际征集中拔得头筹，成功中标！
Good news! Brearley Architects + Urbanists (BAU) with Beijing Tsinghua Tong Heng Urban Planning and Design Institute Co., LTD. (THUPDI), and Architectural Design & Research Institute of Tsinghua University Co., LTD (THAD), have won the invited design competition for the Urban Renewal and Key Areas Design for Haiyan Ancient City, China.

海盐距上海118公里，距杭州98公里，与苏州、宁波相距均不到百公里，是长三角一体化的核心区域。古城片区位于海盐的中央城区，保留了大量历史文化资源，但彼此割裂尚未形成整合的上风资源，整座城区缺少城市活力。
Haiyan lies 118 kilometers southwest of Shanghai, 98 kilometers Northeast of Hangzhou and within one hundred kilometers of Suzhou and Ningbo. The geographical advantage makes Haiyan the core area of integration for the Yangtze River Delta. As one of the cradles of human civilization, Haiyan has a past filled with significant cultural achievements and historical figures. The ancient city area is located in the heart of Haiyan County which has retained a large number of historical and cultural resources.
伴随着长三角一体化的发展策略，海盐正式成为虹桥国际开放枢纽“一核两带”中南向拓展带的主要组成部分。因此，整合其优质资源，促进新的业态发展，使其积极融入长三角城市群发展成为当下之必要。
Taken within the context of the urban integration of the Yangtze River Delta and the construction of the southward expansion belt of the Hongqiao International Hub, there is a need to actively plan the future development of numerous urban centers within the area.
项目总面积有623公顷，方案范围分为折衷区、核心区及六大重点片区这三个层面，覆盖了当地重点的文旅片区、家当发展区和老城区。
The total area of this project is 623 hectares. The scope of planning and design is divided into three categories: the coordination area, the core area, and 6 key areas, covering local key culture tourism sites, industrial development areas and the ancient city.

自2021年5月份确认入围开始，BAU、清华同衡与清华建筑设计三个团队便全心投入于该项目，三地（北京、上海、墨尔本）齐心专心，经由无数个昼夜的研讨探索，不断推翻再布局新的观点，优化细节，完善方案。
BAU, THUPDI and THAD developed the project since the shortlist was announced in May 2021. Following a research period, teams from three cities (Beijing, Shanghai and Melbourne) have proposed a range of new concepts, conservations and improved details of the existing planning.

终极方案《逐海扬波·和美之城》立足于“家当、文化、民生、生态”四个框架，以新的家当布局和科技创新的家当方案引发城市活力；将海盐故事融入区域文旅，凝练本地文化；培植全民共享共治公共举动步伐，实现城市的宜居性；优化塘陆相融的空间脉络，培植低碳城市。终极将海盐打造成“家当创新的活力和美古城”、“人文兴盛的滨海和美古城”、“举动步伐完善的水乡和美古城”、“生态低碳的人居和美古城”。
The final scheme ‘Chasing the Waves and the City of Beauty’ focuses on industry, culture, livelihood, and ecology. It seeks to stimulat urban vitality through new industry layouts and industrial planning for tech innovation; incorporate the narratives of traditional Haiyan into the concept; achieve a more livable city by introducing shared and co-managed communal facilities; optimize the territorial spatial structure; and accelerate the development of low-carbon city.

全体设计方案中，BAU重点卖力棉纺厂，海塘文化公园及不雅观海园两大重点片区。
In the joint bidding, BAU Brearley Architects + Urbanists was primarily responsible for a Cotton spinning factory campus, Haitang Culture Park and Guanhaiyuan area along the river bay edge.

作为当地制造业历史的主要遗址，现存的棉纺厂及其标志性的锯齿形屋顶被保留下来。BAU在现有的工厂构造中，引入了一系列的建筑干预手腕和多功能项目，例如：生鲜市场、食品货摊、零售商店、工坊、画廊、社区做事中央、公寓、儿童举动步伐、办公室等。经由一系列设计，棉纺厂将重新抖擞活力，为海盐注入活气，并成为当地新焦点。
The existing cotton spinning factories and their iconic saw-tooth roofs are preserved as a significant site of the cities manufacturing past. A series of architectural interventions and additions and a new mixed-use program are introduced to the robust and flexible existing factory structure: fresh food market and food stalls, retail, food & beverage, workshops, gallery, community services, apartments, child facilities, offices, and more. The rejuvenated factories will support the emergence of a vibrant urbanity and become a new focus of the city’

海塘文化公园及不雅观海园片区，BAU则基于生态海岸和亲水体验，在现有交通系统上，增加人行景不雅观桥和不雅观海通廊，并在临海区域设置波浪墙、亲水平台、滩涂体验等，丰富游客的不雅观赏体验，并提高亲水活动的安全性。
The designs of Haitang Culture Park and the Guanhaiyuan area embrace the existing circulation system and add a pedestrian bridge and waterfront paths. The design enriches the landscape experience for tourists, whilst improving its safety. Extraordinary wave walls are proposed to heighten the spectacle of the renowned tidal waves crashing into the coastal walls. Waterfront decking and tidal flats allow visitors to engage closer with the landscape.

BAU is honored to have won this design bid with THUPDI and THAD to work towards conserving part of the city’s cultural legacy, and to making the public realm more useful to its citizens and more welcoming to recreational and cultural tourists visiting the Yangtze River Delta.
